DIGITAL PROTOTYPING

The project deals with methods of digital Prototyping & User Testings, where the functionalities of the object to be developed play a subordinate role. A common basic form is developed by means of 3D modelling software (freeware / open source), VR sketching apps or 3D scanners are generated and then transferred to modified and manufactured using various processes. The different methods of modification are both
parametrically based on software functions, plug-ins or web-based applications as well as when creating the form itself (CAD/3DScan/VR) experimentally researched.  Depending on the complexity and methodology of the experiment a single piece or a series of objects, which are the respective process and parameters such as resolution, material thickness, material properties, texture, variation etc. are treated. Together the students discuss evaluation criteria (Prototype quality, production time and costs, functionality, difficulty, variety of forms, efficiency), according to which the project results are subsequently evaluated. These indicators are presented as an overview in form of the SWOT analysis. Each group chooses a procedure and explores the associated scope for action. The results of the project are a comprehensive publication and several tutorials on the individual programs and technologies.
